How to choose the right dress style for your body type?
1. A-LineUniversally flattering, the A-line silhouette really is a girl's best friend. By gently flaring from the shoulders down, it skims curves rather than clinging to them, to create an elegant silhouette. Is This Style for You? If you're petite A-Line adds the illusion of length; if you're tall it can add fullness, and if you've got curves you'd rather cover, the A-line does that too. |
|
2.Ball Gown or "Pick Up"The most traditional of all dress silhouettes, the ball gown adds curves by accentuating the waist and flowing gracefully into a full skirt. The skirt is great at hiding full hips and creating a gorgeous hourglass figure. < Is This Style for You? A perfect choice for formal or “fairy-tale” inspired events, the ball gown style makes a wonderfully classic wedding dress. Looks great on most body types. |
|
3. Column or SheathFigure-hugging column dresses come in a variety of strapless and backless styles. This modern style has become popular among brides who want a chic or beach wedding. Is This Style for You? An elegant choice for anyone with broad shoulders or slender, athletic builds, it can also elongate a petite figure. However, if there are certain areas you'd rather not accentuate, its clingy design might not be the style for you. |
|
4. MermaidAlso known as the trumpet or “fit and flare”, mermaid dresses are fitted at the top and flair dramatically around the knee. Is This Style for You? Mermaid silhouettes accentuate the bust, waist and hips giving an hourglass figure, so it is perfect for showing off your curves. A perfect choice for a glamorous celebrity-inspired wedding. |
|
5. EmpireThis empire silhouette features a bodice with a high waistline directly below the bust. The look can be either soft or flowing or more structured and classic, depending on the fabric and cut used. Is This Style for You? The empire silhouette draws attention up, enhancing the waist while softening the hips, making it a great look for most body types. |
|
6. PrincessCreated with a series of vertical panels of fabric, and no obvious waist, a princess silhouette is more dramatic in appearance than the A-line, but similarly flattering. Is This Style For You? The seams on a dress with a princess silhouette follow the contours of the body to create shape while elongating the torso. An ideal choice for anyone with a petite figure and small-waist. |
|
7. MiniFor the super sassy bride, the increasingly popular bridal mini ends well above the knees and is perfect for showing off a pair of sexy pins. Is This Style For You? It is best suited for informal or outdoor weddings and is especially appropriate for summer beach weddings. Equally flattering for taller brides with long legs or shorter brides who want to appear taller on their special day. |
|
8. Knee-lengthAnother great look for a casual bride, this gown’s hem ends just below the knee. Is This Style For You? Many petite or curvy brides choose this style for both elegance and comfort. Best for cocktail wedding receptions or weddings during warmer months. |
|
9. Tea-lengthTea-length dresses feature a hem that falls anywhere between the bottom of the knee and the bottom of the calf, creating an elegant yet casual style. Popular in the 1950s, this style is a good choice for those who want to add a vintage touch to their wedding ensemble. Is This Style For You? Tea-length dresses are ideal for showing off your legs and drawing attention to a beautiful pair of shoes! A popular choice as a “second” dress to change into for your reception. |
|
10. Ankle-lengthThe ankle-length gown is hemmed right at the ankles, thereby showing off your feet and shoes. The skirt can be either full or fitting. Is This Style For You? Great for brides who want to present themselves as smart, stylish and modern. Because this skirt’s hem does not touch the ground, it is also highly sought after for outdoor weddings or for the bride who just doesn’t want guests stepping on her dress! |
|
11. Floor-lengthJust slightly longer than the ankle-length wedding dress, this style’s skirt is not meant to drag on the floor but rather float just inches above it. Some floor-length dresses come with detailing along the hem to accentuate the style. Is This Style For You? Rather than having your shoes and feet covered by your gown, having them visible can often ‘balance out’ your wedding ensemble. Why not add another color to your wedding ensemble, for example red, and wear a pair of shoes in that color? Guests will be pleasantly surprised when they see a striking pair of shoes peeping out as you walk down the aisle! |
|
12. Sweep TrainSweep Train gowns are for brides who wish to incorporate the traditional train feature but do not want to be troubled by a long train. Trains on Sweep Train gowns barely touch the floor. Is This Style For You? For brides who want a beautiful and elegant gown with a nod to tradition. |
|
13. Court TrainExtending about 3 feet from the ankles, the Court Train is longer than the Sweep Train and can be worn at most ceremonies – formal, semi-formal or casual. Is This Style For You? Extremely elegant, the Court Train style is appropriate for those who plan to have only one train carrier or a train light enough for their flower girl to hold. |
|
14. Chapel TrainThe Chapel Train is the most popular of all train lengths. It flows approximately three to five feet behind the gown. A bride wearing the Chapel Train style makes a bold statement saying “I feel beautiful and special! This is MY day!” Is This Style For You? A stunning choice for all figure types, the Chapel Train sets the brides as the centerpiece of a formal wedding. |
|
15. Cathedral TrainCathedral Train dresses features a cascading train for formal weddings. It extends from six to eight feet behind the gown. Also known as a Monarch Train.” Is This Style For You? This style is the perfect formal wedding gown and will surely attract the attention of guests at church or your reception. |
|
16. Watteau TrainA single panel of fabric attached to the top of your dress at the shoulders or upper back and flowing down to the floor is the defining characteristic of a Watteau Train gown. Veils can vary in length. Is This Style For You? As the train begins at the bride’s upper back, this style allows the bride to look elegant from behind. Also appropriate for ladies who would like to hold their own trains. |
|
17. AsymmetricalAsymmetrical gowns have different tailoring features on one side of the gown compared to the other. A popular asymmetrical design is to have a gown’s hem shorter at the front than the back. This style allows the bride to look different from various angles. Is This Style For You? Suitable for brides who want to combine the casual look of a shorter dress combined with the elegance of a longer hem at the back. |

The below is just a guide. We highly recommend that you get an experienced seamstress to measure your dress size if it is possible. Please always ask someone else to make the measurements for you: doing it by yourself will result inaccurate numbers and could possibly lead to disappointment. Please measure with undergarments same as those you will wear with your dress; try not to measure over other clothing.

Recently, some websites have been using Bridesire.nl's
product images to sell their low-quality dresses. Even worse, they use
the Bridesire.nl brand image to confuse customers into buying
dresses from their websites. Attention customers: please be careful and only buy Bridesire.nl dresses at the actual Bridesire.nl website. These other untrustworthy online shops cannot provide high-quality dresses and will only bring you trouble. Bridesire.nl hires the best dressmakers and experienced designers while using the finest production techniques. Our factories supply all our dresses, which makes it a quick and efficient process for our customers and us. Our efficiency and lowered operational expenditure can be seen in our great prices for the best dresses online. |
Here are some factors you should consider before making your purchase: | |
1. Fabric Bridesire.nl uses 395 Taiwan Satin, which is very soft, doesn't wrinkle easily, is easy to iron and wash and has a natural glossy shine. It is also heavier than other types of satin with an extra 30-35 g/m2. The individuals who are stealing our product images use satin that is only 120-125 g/m2, which is lower in quality, has an underwhelming gloss, is uncomfortable to touch and becomes wrinkled easily. |
|
2. Embroidery Bridesire.nl's embroidery techniques are extremely detailed, look vivid and are very solid and compact. The copied dresses' embroidery is poor because of its unimpressive technique and easily comes loose. |
|
3. Beading Bridesire.nl's dresses are made with beautiful beads on their sleeves and collars, which make the dress look more detailed and classic. All the beading is exquisitely made by hand. The copied dresses normally have no beading details. |
|
4. Inside Lining At Bridesire.nl we use a hard net lining to make our dresses, so even if you don't wear a petticoat, the dress will still look great. We also uses a comfortable lining clothe that feels nice to the touch. The Bridesire.nl dress copiers only use very poor clothe for the lining that has no style and counts bad stitching among its many problems. |
|
5. Bodices & Fish Bones The dresses from Bridesire.nl have bodices that are really well-made, perfect for different styles and sizes. There are even seven fish bones in the bodice to make sure the dress holds its shape. The bones are capped so they don't push through the lining and they follow your curves to add support and make your body look great, even without a bra. The Bridesire.nl dress copiers do not put much thought into the bodice and they don't use fish bones, their dresses are just flat and lack any design to speak of. |

Boning Q& A | |
What is “Boning”? Boning is used in dresses to help the dress maintain its shape, providing support and curves in all the right places to make the dress look amazing even when worn. Good boning is made from soft and flexible materials, so beware overly hard boning as it will look odd with your dress, and possibly harm your body. |
|
What are the benefits of boning? Many designers use boning for the majority of wedding and formal dress styles. Unlike corsets, which work to reshape your body, boning simply serves to make the dress conform to your body, allowing it to fit like a glove. |

Where is boning usually applied? Wedding Dresses: Dependant on the style of the dress, boning will be applied in different positions and quantities. Strapless Styles: 7 slender “bones” (soft, flexible metal or plastic) will be placed in the front, and 6 in the back. Boning for princess waistlines are approximately 0.8cm wide. Other Styles: 4 “bones” are necessary for the front, and 2 for the back. The width of the boning is usually approximately 0.6cm wide. Formal dresses: Dependant on the style of the dress, boning will be applied in different positions and quantities. Strapless Styles: 7 slender “bones” (soft, flexible metal or plastic) will be placed in the front, and 6 in the back. Boning for princess waistlines are approximately 0.8cm wide. Other Styles: Different styles will have different quantities, since the places that need support vary depending on the style. Note: Not all styles require boning. For example, sheath style dresses rarely need it. |

How is boning applied to dresses? The ends of the “bones” are always rounded so that there are no sharp edges that can poke out of the fabric. In addition, stiching is applied all around the “bone” to ensure that it is secure and won’t shift accidentally. |

Timing is always one of the most important factors of ordering your wedding dress, and we take it as
seriously as you do. We advise that you order your dress a minimum of 2 months before you
need to wear it if it is a wedding gown and a minimum of 5
weeks if it is for special occasions. Why is that? As it is stated elsewhere on this website, every dress ordered is made from scratch so it takes longer to arrive than other products you order online. The tailoring time for wedding dresses is about 15 to 20 business days, and 10 to 15 business days for other dresses. Shipping is much faster though. It only takes 3 business days for delivery once orders are completed and dispatched. Therefore, the best way to ensure a relaxing and pleasant shopping experience is to allow plenty of time for tailoring and shipping, and probably the additional time to try on the dress and make alterations if it is necessary. |

When ordering a dress for the special event online, you always need to pay
close attention to getting the right size! Since we’re an
American company, our garments may be larger or smaller than the
standard sizes you’re used to in your country. Be sure to check our size chart
for exact measurements and compare them to your own measurements before placing
your order. If you’re ordering your dress with custom size, it’s very important to get your measurements as accurate as possible. Getting professionally measured by an experienced seamstress is the most reliable way to get your measurements correctly. Check out our measuring guide . If your size changes slightly over the period of waiting or you want to make slight modifications, we always leave a few inches in the seams so that your local seamstress can easily alter if needed. If you have any other questions about ordering the right size, do not hesitate to contact us . |
6. Can you customize the size of my dress? | ^Top |
---|---|
Definately we can! If the standard sizes do not work for you, we can
make it with the exact measurements you provide to us. When placing your order,
you’ll need to check the box for “Custom size” and fill your measurements in inches in the respective boxes.
Getting professionally measured is prefered, but if you want to do it by yourself, make sure that you read our measuring guide first.
In order to avoid common mistakes, please do the followings Ask someone else to measure for you Take measurements with undergarments same as those you will wear with the dress on your important day Make bust measurement from the fullest part of your chest, it is NOT your bra size! Give your measurements in inches Measure hollow to floor wearing shoes of the same height you’ll wear with the dress |
7. Is it possible to alter my dress if it doesn’t fit perfectly? | ^Top |
---|---|
Yes. If your size changes slightly over the period of waiting or you want to make slight modifications, we always leave a few inches in the seams so that your local seamstress can easily alter if needed. Dresses generally have a margin of at least 1 inches on either side of a seam. We provide free alteration services for our customers. You only need to send the dress back to us and we will take care of the rest. |
8. How do you measure length for dresses other than floor length if you only collect a hollow to the floor measurement? | ^Top |
---|---|
We use the hollow to the floor measurement to determine where the knee and ankle are and then cut the correct length according to the dress design. |
9. If I need to wear high heels with the dress, should I add the height of my heel to the hollow to the floor measurement? | ^Top |
---|---|
Yes. If you'd like the dress longer to match your high heels, just add the height of the heels to your hollow to the floor measurement. |
10. Will my dress be in the exact color I see on your website? | ^Top |
---|---|
